Business Summit Brings Hundreds Together Florham Park, NJ (February 4, 2005) Managed Health Care Associates (MHA) the leading Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) in the Long Term Care, and Alternate Site market place held their 2nd Annual Business Summit in Las Vegas, Nevada this past week. Approximately 150 pharmacy owners and 75 manufacturers attended the event. During the 2 day conference, topics ranged from legislative issues, to financial management in the Long Term Care pharmacy setting. The clear focus of the event was the Medicare Modernization Act, and it’s pending impact. Several industry experts were on hand to speak about the final rules, their impact on the industry, association perspectives, lobbying strategies, and what pharmacy owners are doing to prepare. The event was closed out by MHA’s CEO Douglas Present, who provided an industry overview, and discussed MHA’s commitment to supporting the LTC pharmacy sector in the years to come. “This was undoubtedly the most informative meeting I have attended in recent years that focused exclusively on business issues that are relevant to me as an independent long term care pharmacy owner”, said Tom Trite, owner of Continuing Care Rx Pharmacy based in Harrisburg, PA. “MHA has created a tremendous forum for discussing the new Medicare law and other critical issues required for future success.” Doug Present, stated, “This was a great event for our members and will hopefully galvanize the industry to address the issues we face related to the new Medicare law. We were able to bring together most of the large Independent Pharmacies in the country as well as the lobbying arms of the various industry associations and national pharmacy chains. What started as a small idea less than two years ago has truly turned into an industry wide forum focusing on the most pertinent business issues affecting the LTC pharmacy sector today.
