Managed Health Care Associates, Inc. (“MHA”) was founded in 1989 as a contracting organization to serve the pharmaceutical purchasing needs of the Long Term Care (LTC) pharmacy market. The founders of MHA, all registered and licensed pharmacists saw an opportunity to deliver the benefits of group purchasing to the LTC pharmacy market by negotiating contracts for pharmaceutical products. In October 1997, MHA began to expand from its original core business, LTC pharmacies, and entered into additional markets through a number of small acquisitions, the largest being the acquisition of MedEcon Services, Inc. in 1998. These acquisitions facilitated the Company’s entry into the acute care market. The Company’s vision was to expand its success in the LTC market into other similar classes of trade. MHA now has extensive product lines in pharmaceuticals, capital equipment, medical/surgical, laboratory equipment, and nutrition and serves many classes of trade including Long Term Care, Acute Care, Home Health/Home Infusion, State, and others. In addition to its core business, starting January 2006, MHA has been a market leader in establishing a network of LTC pharmacies to provide services under the Medicare Prescription Drug Program. The MHA LTC Network, comprised of more than 500 member pharmacies, has contracted with the nation’s leading Prescription Drug Plans such as Caremark, Medco, Aetna, and United. Through these contracts, our members have access to more than 95% of the approved plans and their members. Today, Managed Health Care Associates, Inc. is the largest and most cost-effective contracting and marketing organization in the LTC marketplace. MHA maintains more than 700 contracts with over 500 supply partners offering comprehensive, member-driven product portfolios to the long-term care, acute care, home infusion/home healthcare and alternate care markets. MHA provides products and services to over 8,600 facilities, including 1,200 long-term care customers servicing an estimated 1.4 million beds, 2,300 alternate site locations, 732 acute care hospitals beds, and 1,700 dialysis centers.
